Delete Windows User Profile From Registry

Use the following steps to remove a profile from the windows registry. Note, removing the profile from the registry does not remove the user account or its ability to log into Windows.

regedit profile list

 

  1. Select Start > Run > Regedit
  2. Navigate to the following registry item HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList
  3. Look for the binary key associated with the account you want to remove. (selecting a binary key on the left pane will show the user in the right pane under "ProfileImagePath")
  4. Delete the binary key associated with the user that you want to remove. (the binary key will have a format similar to S-1-5-21-527237240-220523388-725345543-3679)

To completely remove all traces of a user from Windows. Delete the windows folder for the user. (default location is c:\users\{username}) Also, remove any associated local user accounts by right clicking Computer and selecting Manage
